Maintenance of electric drills

Due to the need for ventilation and heat dissipation, electric drills have a lot of internal dust when used for a long time. The dust can cause the lubricating oil on the gears and bearings (sliding sleeves) to mix, deteriorate, absorb, and intensify wear, especially when used in alternative ways. To ensure the rotation accuracy of the electric drill and reduce excessive clearance caused by bearing (sliding sleeve) wear, it is extremely necessary to maintain cleanliness inside and grease lubrication.

Method:
Loosen several self tapping screws or screws outside the electric drill; Lay it flat and lift half of the outer shell open; The structure of modern electric drills is generally semi embedded, meaning that all mechanical and electrical components are installed in the other half of the casing
Be careful to remove the carbon brush first, then remove the end of the drill chuck, and gently lift the motor to remove the rotor (do not damage the enamel wire). Clean the commutator on the rotor (the one in contact with the carbon brush). If it is too dirty or severely worn, use sandpaper to polish it first, and then use sandpaper or metallographic sandpaper to polish it until it is bright.
If the front and rear bearings of the rotor are sealed, the outside can be wiped clean. If the seal is damaged, it should be replaced in a timely manner. Clean the spiral tooth shaft in front of the rotor
Clean the oil stains inside the shell. Clean the helical gear and bearings (or shaft sleeves) at both ends on the drill chuck rod.
Replace the removed components and first install the rotor; Install the drill chuck rod helical gear again; Install carbon brushes. If the carbon brushes are shorter than 7-8 millimeters, they should be replaced with new ones in a timely manner. The carbon brush should be installed and flattened, and a little Mobil or Shell lubricating grease should be added between the gear pair and the bearing (or shaft sleeve). All parts should be installed and flattened, and after checking for accuracy, the other half can be covered. Tighten the screws, rotate by hand, and feel no jamming before powering on and testing.
